a little bit about this project
In the summer of 2011 my wife and I visited New Mexico, the land of enchantment, with some friends. We spent a week visiting the historic churches, flea markets, art & craft fares, and even went river rafting. Everything was inspiring and even a little enchanting.

Rural Studio
My first visit to Rural Studio country in the black belt of Alabama was in 2010. Unfortunately I did not take my sketchbook. So, when I got a chance to visit again in the Fall of 2011, one of my main objectives was to sketch as many of the Rural Studio projects as I could.
Any trip to Greensboro is not complete with a stop at PieLab and the recently opened BikeLab. September 2011 Drawing -
Chicago
Like New York and Paris, it was only a matter of time before I would sketch the buildings of Chicago. Before the trip I had read the book "The Devil and the White City" by Erik Larson and was looking forward to seeing some of the buildings by architect Daniel Burnham. It was a great visit.

Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is a great place to visit. Culture, great food and wonderful people are abundant here. Stopping and sketching allows me to notice these things and feel the pulse of the place that I'm in. This is especially true in Puerto Rico where the tempo is lively and proud.

London & Paris
In April of 2009, I traveled to London and Paris with my wife and our grandparents. For the first time since traveling to New York City, I packed a sketchbook and was determined to practice and develop my sketching abilities. Both London and Paris proved to be ideal locations for this.

New York City
I went to New York City as part of a class at Texas Tech University led and instructed by Darwin Harrison. One of the requirements for the class included documenting our experience through sketches and what started as a requirement turned into the prime avenue for creative release. This was the first time that I seriously sketched with a purpose and this was heavily influenced by New York City itself. I didn't worry about messing up or drawing perfectly. My only aim was to capture the constant movement throughout the city. This philosophy continues through my sketches today.
